How to send yourself a test letter

Post yourself a free printed copy of a letter, to see it on paper the way a homeowner will.

Before a letter goes out in a campaign, you can post a copy to yourself. It's printed and posted just like a campaign letter, so you see exactly what a homeowner gets. Test letters are free, and your team has 3 of them. They come with Campaigns.

Send a test letter

  1. Go to Settings → Test letters.

  2. Under Your letters, find the letter. Click Preview first if you want to check it on screen.

  3. Click Send test.

  4. Enter the name and address to post it to. If your team has sent one before, the last address is already filled in.

  5. Click Send test letter.

The letter is printed and posted. Buildscout keeps the address for your next test letter.

See how many you have left

At the top of Test letters, Allowance shows how many of your 3 test letters are left and how many have been sent. Sent to shows the address the next one goes to.

Under Sent, you can see every test letter posted for your team: which letter, the address it went to, who sent it and when.

Change or forget the test letter address

  1. On Test letters, click Change next to Sent to. This opens Settings → Setup at Test letter address.

  2. Change the address and click Save address, or click Forget address to clear it.

Why is Send test greyed out?

The letter says why next to its name:

  • Still being designed: the AI hasn't finished designing it yet. Wait until it's ready.

  • Couldn't be designed: the AI couldn't design it. Open it in Letter templates and click Try again.

  • Fix its variables to send it: the letter has merge tags that aren't written correctly. Open it and fix the tags the merge tags panel warns about. See "How to edit a letter by hand".

If every Send test button is greyed out, you've used all 3 test letters. You can still preview your letters.

What if I've used all my test letters?

When none are left, the Allowance says You've used all your test letters. Click Email us to ask for another.

Why didn't my test letter send?

If something goes wrong, Buildscout says Couldn't send the test letter with the reason. For example, Your team has used all its test letters means none are left. Try again, or contact support if it keeps happening.

Why can't I see Test letters?

It's only there if your plan includes letter campaigns.
