How to top up letter credit

Buy letter credit to pay for the letters we post, or have it topped up automatically when it runs low.

Every letter we post for you is paid for from your letter credit. Each letter is charged as it's sent, so your credit needs to cover the day's letters. If you download and post letters yourself, no credit is used.

Only your team's billing members can buy credit or change top-ups.

See your balance

Click Settings in the sidebar, then Letter credits. Balance shows how much credit you have, and about how many letters it will send.

When your credit won't cover today's letters, Sending today shows Not enough credits and how much you're short, with a Top up button.

Buy credit

  1. In Letter credits, click Buy credit.

  2. Choose Buy credit now.

  3. Pick an Amount: £30, £50 or £100, or Other for your own amount of at least £30. Each shows roughly how many letters it'll send.

  4. Under Pay with, pick the card on your account, or A new card.

  5. Check the VAT and the total.

  6. Click Pay. The button shows the total.

The credit is added as soon as the payment goes through.

Top up automatically

  1. In Letter credits, under Auto top-up, choose Top up automatically.

  2. Pick how much to add each time under Top up by, at least £30.

  3. Pick the card to Charge.

  4. Click Save.

When your credit falls below the amount shown, we add more and charge your card, so letters keep going out. You can turn it off at any time by choosing I'll top up myself.

What happens when credit runs out?

Letters don't go out while you're out of credit. A letter that couldn't be paid for shows a warning in Sending today: there weren't enough letter credits to pay for it, so it wasn't posted. It stays scheduled, and goes at a later sending time once you've topped up. If it's still unsent after the campaign's Cancel unsent letters after time, it's cancelled.

Why did my automatic top-up fail?

The card couldn't be charged, for example because it was declined or has expired. We let you know with a notification, Your letter credit top-up has failed, which says letter sending is paused until your payment details are updated. Billing members also see a red Credit top-up failed — pick another card badge in the app. Click it, pick another card, and buy credit or save your auto top-up again. Until there's credit, your letters don't go out.

Why can't I see Letter credits?

It's only shown to your team's billing members, and only if your plan includes letter campaigns. Ask a billing member to top up.

Why is my amount refused?

The least you can add is £30. Pick an amount of £30 or more.

Why can't I top up?

Letter credit is paid for by your billing account, so only its billing members can top it up. Everyone else sees Ask a billing member to top up.
