How to use project chat

Keep the whole job's conversation in one place, with your team and the subcontractors on it, and @mention the right person.

Every project has a Chat: one conversation about the job as a whole. Everyone on the project sees it, your team and the subcontractors you've added to it. Comments about a particular drawing, photo or task belong on that thing instead, so they stay with it.

Send a message

  1. Open the project and click Chat in its menu.

  2. Type your message in the box at the bottom.

  3. Type @ and pick a name to mention someone, so they're sure to see it.

  4. Send it.

The latest messages show first at the bottom. Scroll up to load older ones.

Reply, edit or delete

  • Click Reply under a message to answer it in its own thread.

  • Click … on one of your own messages to Edit or Delete it. You can only change your own messages.

Who is told about a message?

People you @mention are told, and so is the rest of a conversation when someone replies in it. You're never told about your own messages. Each person chooses how they hear about these under Settings → Notifications (Comments).

The number beside Chat in the project's menu is how many messages you haven't read. It clears when you open the chat.

Why can't I send a message?

The project is complete. Its chat can be read but not added to until the project is reopened.
