# Why the receptionist isn't on the free trial

Why the receptionist waits for your plan to start, and how a billing member can end the trial early to use it now.

The receptionist answers real calls on a phone number of its own, and every call costs us, so it isn't part of the free trial. On a trial you can see the receptionist in the sidebar, but you can't set it up, make test calls, get a number or put it live until your plan starts.

## Start your plan now to use it

Only your account's billing members can do this.

1.  Click **Receptionist** in the sidebar. It says **The receptionist starts with your plan**.
    
2.  Click **End trial and start now**.
    
3.  Check what you'll pay today. Nothing else about your plan changes.
    
4.  Click **Pay … and start**, which shows the amount. If there's nothing to pay, the button says **Start my plan**.
    

Your plan starts today, and you can set the receptionist up straight away. See _How to set up your receptionist_.

If your card is declined, you can add another card in the same window.

## Why is there no End trial button?

You're not a billing member. The page says **Only your account's billing members can end the trial.** Ask whoever looks after billing, or wait for your trial to end. See _How to add billing members_.

## What if my team has no plan?

The page says **The receptionist comes with a plan**. A billing member can click **Choose a plan**. See _How to choose a plan for a team without one_.

## What happens to my number if my plan ends?

The receptionist stops answering, and calls ring your fallback number. About a week after the plan ends, its phone number is released. Choose a plan before then to keep it. See _How to get your receptionist's phone number_.
