Every letter and postcard your campaigns send lives in Letter templates. You can have AI design a new one in your style: it reads your website for your colours, your photos and the way you talk about your work, and draws three designs for you to choose from. Letter templates come with Campaigns.
This article walks through designing an A4 letter from start to finish. The articles listed at the end go deeper into each part.
Start a new letter
Click Letter campaigns in the sidebar, then Letter templates.
Click New template.
Choose A4 letter. (A postcard works the same way: choose A5 postcard.)
Tell the AI about your business
Check Your website. If your team has saved one, it's already filled in.
Under Your logo and photos of your work, your logo is already there if you've added one in your branding. Click Upload logo to add one if not.
Tap the photos of your work you'd like the letter to use. You can pick up to six. Click Add photos to add more from your computer.
In Anything we should know? (optional), say who you are, who the letter is for and what to lead with. For example: "warm and local, lead with our 10-year guarantee".
Click Design my letter.
Three designs are made in about a minute. They're saved to your templates as they're made, so you can leave and come back.
Pick a design
The designs appear down the left, under Versions, named Design A, Design B and Design C. Each has your logo, your photos and words written for this letter.
Click a design on the left to open it.
Look through each, and leave the one you like best open. While no campaign sends the letter, the version you have open is the one it uses.
Change it
With AI: click Edit with AI, then type what you'd like changed or pick an idea such as Make the logo bigger. The change is made as a new version, so the one before is kept. What the AI changed is written on the left.
By hand: click Edit above the letter, then double-click any text and type over it.
Name it and finish
Click the name at the top and type a name you'll know it by, like "Loft conversion intro".
Everything saves as you go: the bottom of the screen says All changes saved.
Click Done. The letter is in your library, ready for any campaign.
See it on paper
To see how it looks printed, post yourself a free test letter from Settings → Test letters. See "How to send yourself a test letter".

Why are my designs taking a while?
The AI reads your website, writes the words, picks your colours and photos, then lays out the page. While it works, the letter says what it's doing and roughly how long is left. If it's been much longer than usual, it says Taking longer than usual. It'll appear here when it's ready. You can close the letter and carry on: it keeps going in the background, and the letter shows Designing… in Letter templates until it's ready.
Why does my letter say "Couldn't be designed"?
Sometimes the AI can't finish a design. Open the letter and it says why. If the website couldn't be read, check the address you gave: for example, the message may say the address couldn't be loaded, or that it has too little on it to design from. Click Try again to design it again, or Delete letter to take it out of your letters.
Why can't I use a letter that's still being designed?
A letter isn't ready until its first design has landed. Until then, it can't go into a campaign, be sent as a test letter or be copied. In the letter picker, the button says Still being designed instead of Use this letter.
