Planning data, from search to signed job

Find the planning applications near you that fit your work, keep the good ones as leads, and follow each one through to a project.

Planning data shows you the planning applications near you, so you can get to the homeowner before anyone else does. You search them, keep the ones worth chasing as leads, and move each lead along until it's a signed job.

Click Planning data in the sidebar to open it. On a phone the sidebar calls it Planning.

Where Find Leads went

Planning data used to be called Find Leads. It's the same page with the same searches, folders and saved leads. Old links to Find Leads, in emails, notifications, exported spreadsheets and bookmarks, still work: they open the same page in Planning data.

The page at a glance

The filters are on the left. The map is on the right, with every application as a dot coloured by its decision. Switch the right-hand side between Map and Table at the top. The count beside them says how many applications your search finds.

If you gave your office address when you signed up, the page first opens on applications within 5 miles of it from the last 90 days. After that, Planning data opens where you left it on that browser: the same search, map and page of results.

From a search to a signed job

  1. Choose where to look. Search what's on the map, round a postcode, or draw your own area. See How to choose your search area.

  2. Say what work you want. Write it in your own words in the box the page opens on (or click Describe with AI), or click I'll pick them myself and pick the filters yourself. See How to describe the work you want with AI and How to filter planning applications.

  3. Open an application. Switch to Table and click a row, or click a dot on the map and then View application. See How to read a planning application.

  4. Save the search to run it again whenever you like. See How to save and reuse searches.

  5. Keep the leads. Click Save leads at the foot of the filters to put every result of the search in a folder.

  6. Work the leads. Your folders are under Saved leads in the sidebar. Each one is a board, from New lead through to Won. See How to use the lead board.

When you move a lead into Won, Buildscout offers to make it a project, with the application's address and proposal, and the council's documents if you want them.

Who can use Planning data

Planning data comes with the Planning data, Homeowner outreach and Enterprise plans. Without one of them, the page shows how many applications came in near you and the plans you can choose instead.

Some parts need Enterprise: searching by planning agent or company owner, seeing the agent and company owners on an application, and auto exports.

Why Save leads is greyed out

Save leads saves up to 2,000 leads at a time. If your search finds more, the button is greyed out: narrow the search, for example with a smaller area or a shorter time, until it finds 2,000 or fewer. The button doesn't show at all when the search finds nothing.

Leads you've already put in the Bin stay there when you save a whole search, and Buildscout tells you how many.
