How to edit your Portfolio site

Change your Portfolio site by asking the AI or by hand: its pages, sections, look, jobs, photos, words and contact details.

You can change anything on your Portfolio site whenever you like. Click Portfolio in the sidebar, then the Page tab. The editor is on the left, with three tabs: Chat, Pages and Site. Your site is on the right, just as people will see it. Changes save as you make them, to your draft: they reach your live site when you click Publish changes at the top.

Ask the AI

The Chat tab is the AI designer. Tell it what to change, like "Make it feel more premium" or "Add a Kitchens page with my kitchen jobs", and it changes your draft. Click a part of your site on the right first to change just that part: the chat shows what it's Editing. To give it photos, click the paperclip (Attach photos), or drop or paste them into the chat. Each change has an Undo. Click Copy a website to copy the design of a website you like, with your own words, jobs and photos in it.

Change a section

Your site is made of sections: the headline, your jobs, your reviews, the enquiry form and so on. Click a section on the right to open its settings. In the Chat tab, clicking a section picks it for the AI instead: click Edit by hand to see its settings.

A section's settings start with what it says and shows: its heading, words, photos or jobs. Under Look, pick its Background, or turn on Hide this section to keep it in the editor but off your site. At the top, the arrows move it up or down, the copy button duplicates it, and the bin deletes it. Page moves it to another page. Edit with AI takes you to the chat about that section. The back arrow closes its settings.

To change words, double-click them on the right and type over them. Press Enter, or click away, to keep them, or Escape to put them back.

Not sure what to say about yourself? In the About section's settings, click Write it for me and Buildscout writes it from your business and your jobs.

Add pages

Open Pages. It's your site map: the Header at the top, then each page with its sections in order, then the Footer. The header and footer are on every page.

  1. Click Add page at the top. To put the new page under another one, click Add a page under that page instead.

  2. Type its Page title. Its Address is made for you.

  3. Click Add page.

A page can sit under another page, up to three deep, like /services/kitchens. On your site, it's in a menu under that page in the header. Your home page has every page under it already, so it has no Add a page.

Click a page to show it on the right, and the arrow beside it to see its sections. Drag pages or sections by their handles to put them in order, or drag a section onto another page to move it there.

Click the settings button (⚙) beside a page to change its Title, which page it's Inside, its Address, and whether it's In the navigation. Below them is what Google shows: the Title in search results and Description in search results, with how it may look In Google. They're made for you (Automatic) until you type your own. Click Delete page to delete it, along with any pages under it. You can undo it. Your home page can't be deleted.

Add sections, jobs and photos

  1. Click Add section above your site, or Add a section under a page in Pages. Or hover over the edge between two sections on your site and click + Add a section.

  2. Describe what you want under Describe it, and the AI designs it, and click Design it. Or pick a section: Your jobs, One job, Photo gallery, A photo, Reviews, Headline and photo, About, Services, Areas, Text or Enquiry form. For One job or A photo, choose which one next.

Writing your own HTML? Click Add a blank section in HTML at the bottom.

Click Library above your site to open your photos, logo and jobs beside it. Under Photos, search your photos, show those From jobs or Others, or click Upload to add more. Your logo is there too. Drag a photo or your logo onto your site, to where you want it, or click it to add it. Drop a photo onto a picture to swap it. You can also drag photos from your computer straight onto your site.

Your jobs

Open Library, then Jobs.

  • To add a job, click Add a job from a project and pick a finished project: its best photos are ticked for you. Or click Add your own for work from before Buildscout.

  • Drag a job onto your site, or press + to add it.

  • Click a job, or the pencil, to change its words or photos.

  • Use the arrows to put your jobs in order.

Change the look

Open Site, then Brand, for your Logo, your site's Look (Classic, Bold or Minimal), its Colour, and the Font for headings and Font for words.

Under Advanced you can add CSS for the whole site, and custom code like analytics or a chat widget. Custom code runs only on your own domain, never on your buildscout address or in the editor.

Your business details

The rest of Site is your business, which your sections show:

  • Your business: your Services, the Areas you cover, and the Phone on the site and Email on the site. A section can say its own instead, in its settings.

  • Enquiries: where to Send enquiries to (type the address and click Use this), what the Main button and Enquiry form button say, and the Call and quote bar on phones, which puts Call and quote buttons along the bottom of a phone's screen.

  • Address & search: Your site's address, and Use your own domain. To change the address, type it and click Change address. Changing it stops the old address working.

Your business details save themselves as you type: there's no Save button. They're on your live site as soon as they're saved.

Undo, history and the phone view

Above your site, pick which page to show. The arrows undo and redo your changes. The clock opens History: click Restore to put an earlier version back as your draft. Saved shows once your changes are saved.

Every change is checked on a phone. It says Works on phones, or how many problems it found: click it to see them, and Fix with AI to have the AI fix one, or Fix all with AI. Check phones checks the whole site again. Click Phone to see your site on a phone, and Computer to go back. The panel button hides the editor to give your site more room.

Why do enquiries still come to me after I changed the email?

When you send enquiries to an email address outside your team, we email that address to confirm it first. Until they confirm, enquiries come to you. The hint under Send enquiries to says Waiting for them to confirm from the email we sent.

Why isn't a job showing on my site?

A job with no photos and no words isn't shown. Its line in the Library's Jobs says not shown until it has photos or words. Open it and add some.

Why can't I delete the enquiry form?

Your site needs an enquiry form on one of its pages, so homeowners can ask for a quote. Add another one first if you want to move it.

Why can't I use that address?

Each page needs its own address, and a few are kept for your site's own files. Buildscout says why under the address. Try another.

Why can't I add a page under this one?

Pages go up to three deep, like /services/kitchens/islands. A page that deep has no Add a page. Your home page has none either: every page is under it already, so click Add page at the top.

Why won't my photo or logo upload?

Photos must be under 30 MB. Logos must be a PNG, JPEG or SVG. Buildscout tells you which when it can't use a file.
