How to pause, resume, copy and archive a campaign

Stop a campaign for a while, start it again, reuse its setup somewhere new, or put it away for good.

Campaigns don't have to run for ever. Pause one when you're fully booked, copy one to run the same thing somewhere new, and archive one you've finished with. Nothing is lost: an archived campaign keeps its leads and results.

All your campaigns are in Letter campaigns in the sidebar. The tabs All, Draft, Active, Paused and Archived pick them out. All shows every campaign that isn't archived.

Pause a campaign

  1. On a campaign's card, click … and choose Pause. Inside a campaign, click Pause at the top of its Overview.

  2. Leave Also pause all existing enrolments for this campaign ticked to hold the letters it's already sending too. Untick it to let those letters carry on.

  3. Click Pause Campaign.

A paused campaign stops finding new leads. Letters you held stay where they are, ready for when you resume.

Resume a campaign

  1. Click … on its card and choose Resume, or click Resume at the top of its Overview.

  2. Leave Also resume all paused letter workflows for this campaign ticked so its letters carry on where they left off.

  3. Click Resume Campaign.

Copy a campaign

  1. Click … and choose Copy.

  2. You get a new draft called the same name with "copy" on the end, with the same search area, targeting and letters. It opens on Search area, ready to change.

  3. Change what you need and start it as usual.

Archive a campaign

  1. Click … and choose Archive.

  2. Click Archive Campaign.

It stops, and all its letters are paused, but its leads and results are kept. Find it under the Archived tab, where you can click … and choose Unarchive at any time. Unarchiving asks the same question as resuming.

There's no way to delete a campaign. Archive it instead.

Why won't my campaign resume?

The message says why:

  • Add a letter before you resume this campaign.

  • This campaign isn't ready to resume yet. Check its settings and try again.

  • A letter is still being designed. Resume once it's ready.

  • You need an active subscription to resume a campaign

  • Your plan's limit on campaigns running at once, or on the leads a year your running campaigns target, would be passed. Billing members can click Add more. Otherwise pause another campaign, or make the search area smaller or the targeting narrower.

How many leads a year are my campaigns using?

On Homeowner outreach, Outreach and Enterprise, the top of Letter campaigns shows your plan's leads a year: how many your running campaigns use, how many are left and how many your plan covers, counted over the last 12 months. The bar underneath shows how many each campaign uses. Hover over a part of the bar to see its campaign's name in full. Running campaigns in your other teams count too, and show as one grey part.

The box turns amber when a tenth or less is left, and red when you're over. Billing members can click Upgrade to add more. Pausing a campaign frees up its leads a year.

Why did my campaign's own budget disappear?

Pausing or archiving a campaign clears its share of the daily budget, and resuming doesn't put it back. If you give campaigns their own limits, check them in Budget management after resuming.

Why are some leads still paused after I resumed?

Resuming only restarts letters that were held by the pause. Leads that expired because nobody reviewed them in time, or whose letters waited past Cancel unsent letters after, stay paused. Open the lead to send its letters after all.

Why was my campaign paused when I didn't pause it?

Campaigns are paused when your plan ends, when it changes to one with fewer campaigns, or when you move to a smaller plan and don't keep them. Going over your leads a year doesn't pause running campaigns: you just can't start, resume or change one until you're back within it. You're told when it happens. A campaign marked Pauses with a date will be paused when a plan change you've made takes effect.
